Introduction
I love this dessert, but make it only occasionally. After calculating the calories, I see that it is something I will NOT be making very often. I love this dessert, but make it only occasionally. Ingredients
-
2 cups crushed pretzels
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups butter
1 (8 oz) pkg. cream cheese
1 (9 oz) pkg. Cool Whip (lite)
4 small (.32 oz) pkg. Royal Strawberry Jello (or 2 lg pkgs)
1 lb fresh strawberries (or 2 10oz pkgs frozen)
Directions
Crush pretzels (I put in ziplock bag and use rolling pin to crush.
Melt butter, stir in crushed pretzels and 1/4 cup sugar. Press into 9x13 inch pan and bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Let cool.
Beat together cream cheese, 1 cup sugar and then stir in Cool Whip. Spread on pretzel crust and refrigerate until set.
Cut strawberries into small pieces.
Add strawberry jello to 2 cups boiling water. Let cool to room temp (unless adding frozen strawberries which you add without cooling). Then add fresh strawberries and let stand a few minutes. Then pour mixture gently over top.
Chill until set.
This cuts nicely into 24 pieces.
Note: Using frozen strawberries makes a delicious dessert as well, and cuts down considerably on prep time.
