Introduction

I make this for pot luck BBQs. The smokiness of the hamhock really enhances the flavor of the beans. I remove the hock and don't use the meat so the calorie/fat calculations may be a bit off. Ingredients

    2 cups dry pinto beans
    2.5 cups chicken broth
    2 cups water
    1 cup sweet onion, chopped
    3 large garlic cloves, sliced
    1 medium hamhock
    3 medium slices of bacon, chopped then fried and drained

Directions

In a large crockpot, combine beans, onions, garlic, hamhock, chicken broth and water. Set to high setting for approximately 2 to 3 hours until beans become fork tender. Remove hamhock and add bacon. Combine and serve hot.
