Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    1# extra lean ground beef
    1 brown onion
1 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes (I use petite diced, or you can buy whole and dice them yourself)
1 14.5 oz. can of tomato sauce
    1 tsp. each:
    Basil
    Oregano
    italian Seasoning
    Salt
Garlic to taste....I dump in a bunch of the stuff!

Directions

Makes about 10 half cup servings
Chop up the onion and brown the meat with the onion. Drain grease and add the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours. Only stir it occasionally...it'll turn all brown on top, but that helps the flavors mix well, so don't feel compelled to stir it often.

It really needs the 2 hours to cook in order for the flavor to come out in it.

Excellent!! Reduced fat by washing beef after cooking (*American Dietetic Assoc states you can reduce fat up to 50% this way). Plus substituted in a can of diced tomatoes & Green Chilies ~ gave it a "kick". Also added small can of Tomato Paste to thicken! - 10/22/09

I made this last night and it is a keeper. I sautéed some fresh mushrooms along with the onions and also threw in some sliced black olives. I divided the sauce between 2 pots because my daughter doesn't like meat in her sauce and I added crumbles to mine. Will be using this again! - 6/3/08
