Cake:
1 pkg (4 oz) BAKER'S German Chocolate
1/2 C boiling water
2 sticks butter
2 C sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 tsp vanilla
2 C flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 C buttermilk
Topping:
1 C evaporated milk
1 C sugar
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
1/2 C butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 C coconut
1 C pecans, chopped
Directions
Preheat oven to 350. Line 3 9 inch round pans or 1 15X 11 pan with wax paper.
Melt chocolate in boiling water, cool. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolks. Stir in vanilla and chocolate and set aside. Mix flour, soda, salt. Beat flour mixtureinto chocolate mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Beat egg whites until they forms stiff peaks. Fold into batter. Pour into pans. Bake 30 minutes. Cool 15 minutes in pan and then cool on rack. Prepare topping. Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in coconut and nuts. Cool until thick enough to spread. Spread onto cake.
