Introduction

Healthy and Low-Fat Middle Eastern dish. Healthy and Low-Fat Middle Eastern dish.
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 cup lentils
    1 cup whie or brown rice
    1.5 cups macaroni
    1/2 cup chick peas

    For sauce:
    1 onion
    1 Tbs olive oil
    3 garlic cloves
    2 cup tomato sauce
    1 Tbs Vinegar
    salt/pepper
    cumin

    Optional:
    2 onions
    1/4 cup vegetable oil

Directions

Cook lentils with salt until tender.
Cook rice until done.
Cook macaroni until done.
Cook chick peas until done. (but you can also use canned ones)

Put lentils, rice, macaroni and chick peas together and cook for about 7 minutes. Add salt.

Sauce:
Sautee onion in 1 Tbs olive oil, add garlic & tomato juice.
Let simmer for 15 min. Season with salt/pepper and cumin.
Cook again for 3 Min.

Serve the Kuchari and pour sauce on the top.

Optional: You can fry 2 onions until caramelized and put it over the sauce. I leave it out, too much calories :)

    egyptians usally use green lentils, but why not try others.
