Introduction
I learned this recipe from a friend when we were living in Linda Vista, CA, in a town that was mostly Vietnamese. One of my neighbors taught me this recipe, and I have made it hundreds of times and need no recipe for it. Ingredients
-
One head of cabbage, medium size
Three large carrots
About 1 1/2 to two pounds lean ground beef
One large onion
Two cloves garlic or use garlic powder
Approximately 3 pkgs of 7" Wonton wrappers
2 large egg yolks for "glue"
1 tsp. salt, or to taste
2 tsp. black pepper, or to taste
Tips
I hope I remembered everything as I make these by memory.
Directions
Shred the cabbage into a large bowl, and grate the carrots and onions into the bowl, as well as the seasonings. Add the browned ground beef to the shredded vegetables and stir completely.
Fill each wonton wrapper with a small handful of vegetable mixture with a corner pointed toward yourself. First roll bottom corner up over the vegetable mixture; then fold in sides. Smear egg yolk onto the top of wonton square and finish rolling, letting the egg yolk be the glue that holds it together.
Fry in healthy oil.
Serving Size: Makes approximately 45 egg rolls
