This is a family favorite, full of flavor and very filling, traditionally made after the Christmas and Easter ham dinners, using the remains of a spiral-sliced half ham. Ingredients

    1 ham bone
    10 c. water
    1 lb. cooked ham, cubed
    2 c. celery, diced
    2 c. onions, chopped
    1/2 c. raw pearled barley
    1 c. raw orzo pasta
    2 cans butter beans
    2 cans great northern (or similar) beans

Tips

Reduce the sodium by rinsing the beans before adding to the crockpot.


Directions

Cover the ham bone with water in a large slow cooker, cook on low overnight. Add the remaining ingredients and cook on low for about 8 hours.
