Basically, you can add anything to this soup... Basically, you can add anything to this soup...
Number of Servings: 8


    2 large (about 8 oz each) beef shanks.
    6 large chicken thighs.
    1 large carrot, peeled and cut in large chunks.
    1 large onion, diced.
    4 medium cloves garlic, minced.
    1 large stalk celery, diced.
    1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.
    1+1/2 teaspoon salt.
    1/2 cup diced cabbage.
    1/2 cup diced turnip or rutabaga.
    6 cups water.


Serve with either crackers, bread, rice, or noodles if desired.


1) Place everything into a large stock pot.
2) Bring it to a boil, and then turn to medium low, and allow to simmer for 2 to 2+1/2 hours. Check the seasoning, and adjust if desired.
3) Strain the soup into a large serving bowl. Separate the meat and vegetables, and place onto a serving platter.

Serving Size: makes 8 generous servings
