Ingredients
-
1 lb cubed beef round steak*
1 can Healthy Request Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 medium onions, chopped
1 cup diced celery
1 can undiluted beef consomme'
1/4 cup water
2 tsp Lawry's Seasoned Salt
1 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
1/2 tsp dried thyme, crushed
other herbs or seasonings if desired
Tips
Serve with your choice of noodles, potatoes, or rice and a salad to complete a meal.
Stir in 1/4 cup light sour cream for a change in flavor, but add the calories! You can also add your choice of different herbs, as well, such as rosemary or marjoram, or other seasonings such as garlic. I have tried ginger, as well, but that didn't work out well with the Lawry's. It's also good with other cream cooking soups such as Cream of Celery. It even works well with bone-in, skinless chicken parts if you use chicken broth instead of consomme'. This one is fun to experiment with. :)
This can also be cooked in a slow cooker for 5-6 hours on low setting, 3-4 hours on high. Don't let it overcook.

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13" baking dish with nonstick spray or line with nonstick foil. I line the dish with foil and spray the foil. Set aside.
Cut cubed round steak into 4 serving pieces. Saute onions and celery in a little of the consomme' until the onion is translucent. Remove from pan and wipe dry; spray pan with a hearty spray of nonstick spray. Add cubed steak to pan and brown on each side, about 5-7 minutes. Sprinkle with some of the seasoned salt and pepper. When nicely browned, remove steak from pan and place in a single layer in prepared baking dish. Top with cooked onions and celery.
In a medium bowl, combine remaining consomme', cream of mushroom soup, water and seasonings and stir well. Pour over cubed steak and vegetables. Cover loosely with another piece of nonstick foil or one that has been sprayed with nonstick spray, nonstick side down.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for one hour. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes or until steak is tender.
Serving Size: Makes 4 1/4-lb* servings plus 1/2 cup gravy.
