Introduction

I usually stuff the turkey but I've made this as a casserole and it works out very well. Put a little extra butter on top.

Ingredients

    1 onion, medium, diced
2 to 3 stalks of celery, diced
    small box of mushrooms, diced
    1 stick butter or margarine
about 3/4 loaf good white bread - torn into 1 inch pieces
1 large granny smith apple, diced
1 can (plus or minus) chicken broth
    1 egg
    2 tbsps poultry seasoning

Directions

sautee the onion, celery and mushrooms in the butter. When the onion is translucent, take it off the heat.

meanwhile, mix the cut up bread with 1 tbsp poultry seasoning and apples. use the rest of the poultry seasoning to taste. Pepper and salt to taste

mix the egg with the broth.

put all of the sauteed items in with the bread. Add the wet mixture until the stuffing looks like it's the right wetness. I usually use all of it.

Stuff it in the cleaned turkey. Sew the opening closed. cook for a long time on low. Depending upon the size of the bird, between 4.5 and 7 hours at about 325.
