Ingredients

1" stick cinnamon
1 star anise
2 cardamon pods
2 cloves
1 teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon aniseed
2 shallots
2 cloves of garlic
1" fresh ginger, grated
2 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp olive oil
1 carrot, shredded
1/2 cup diced tomatoes, drained
1 red pepper, diced
1 cup shredded green cabbage
3 cups water
2.5 oz peeled large shrimp
2.5 oz cod fillets, cut into cubes
2.5 oz fresh bay scallops
1 1/2 cups cooked soba noodles
Directions
Tie spices in a square of cheesecloth and set aside.
Blend the shallots, garlic, ginger and black pepper to a fine mixture in a food processor or mortar and pestle.
Heat oil in a large saucepan, add the blended mixture and cook 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add water and bag of spices. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to a rapid simmer and cook 15 minutes.
Add vegetables, simmer 5 minutes.
Discard the soup spices.
Add the seafood and cook 2-3 minutes or until shrimp are pink.
To serve, put some noodles into a bowl and pour soup overtop.
