Introduction

Mom's Italian sauce that can be used as a soup or over pasta. Mom's Italian sauce that can be used as a soup or over pasta.

Ingredients

    1# lean ground beef
    2 lg cans peeled Italian style plum tomatoes (juice and all)
    1 C beef broth
    1 C dry red wine
    1/12 yellow onion chopped
    1/4 cup grated carrot
    2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
    2 Tbl flour
    1 Tbl olive oil

Directions

toss the beef w/ flour then brown in olive oil. add onion and carrot sautee until soft. add wine and simmer for 3 min. add remaining ingredients (crush the tomatoes up with your hands as you add them) and simmer for 1 hr. serve as a soup or over spiral or med shell pasta to "hold" the sauce. sprinkle w/ parm cheese if desired/allowed.
