Ingredients

    2c. raw chick peas or garbanzo beans
    .3 c. onions, finely chopped
    1/4 c. chopped parsley
    3 cloves garlic, pressed
    2 egg whites (optional, more water and flour will hold it together, but blend well with hand blender to distribute evenly)
    4 tbsp whole wheat flour
    garlic & onion powder to taste (2 tsp ea is ok)
    paprika if desired
    4 tbsp. fresh cilantro or
    4 tbsp. coriander powder
    2 tsp. cumin powder
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
    1/4 tsp. red pepper
    Oil for frying (3 tbsp in this calculation)
    1/8 tsp. cinnamon
    Pinch of cloves
    1 tsp Salt
    .5 tsp. baking powder
    Bread crumbs (optional) or 2 tbsp. flour

    Soak the beans in water for about 24 hours. Drain and rinse. Blend to a fine chop in a food processor or blender (small .3c batches). Transfer to a mixing bowl. Add all the ingredients.
    Shape the falafel mixture into flat rounds, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Heat oil, Drop them in hot oil. If they are browning too quickly, reduce heat. Serve with Tahini Dip.
    instead of frying with lots of oil, coat skillet well & fry crust on fast on high heat, than bake through in oven on 350 for about 15 min.

    TAHINI SAUCE:
    2/3 c. tahini (sesame paste)
    3-4 tbsp. water
    Juice of 2 lemons
    Salt, freshly ground pepper
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 tbsp. fresh chopped parsley

    Mix the tahini to a smooth paste with the water, then blend in the lemon juice and other ingredients.

    Very Good
    tasted good! didn't have enough parsley, so i added fresh mint as well. used 12 cup food processor to chop/mix the whole thing. chilled in fridge, so easier to work with. son helped w/ frying, (needed more oil) then finished in oven. - 6/27/10
