Ingredients
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup canola oil
1 cup lowfat buttermilk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450*F.
Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add the oil and 3/4 cup buttermilk and mix lightly. Add additional buttermilk, 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough is slightly sticky.
DO NOT OVER MIX! The more you mix biscuits, the tougher they get.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured countertop and knead about 10 times. Roll out to about 3/4 of an inch thick and cut them with a 2.5 inch cutter. To give you an idea of the size, my grandma used to use an old Tupperware kid's cup.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
These buttermilk biscuits are delicious. They have a nice golden brown crunchy top and a soft interior.
