Introduction

I love instant oatmeal, but most of the commercial stuff is too expensive and has too much junk in it. I found a recipe for a home made mix and this is my favorite blend. Ingredients

6 cups quick cooking or instant oats
1 1/3 cups instant nonfat dry milk
    ½ cup diced dried apples
    ½ cup raisins
½ cup sugar (granulated, brown, or a combination of both)
    1 Tbls ground cinnamon
    1 tsp salt
    ¼ tsp ground cloves
    pinch nutmeg

Directions

Combine all the above and stir to mix well. Be sure the dried fruits are not sticking together. Place in an airtight container and store in a cool dry place. Good for about 2 months (if it lasts that long)

Prepare: Shake the container to remix. Scoop out ½ cup mix into bowl and add ½ cup boiling water, stir and then microwave for 30 seconds on high.

If you are making more than one serving, or don’t want to microwave, boil ½ cup water per serving in a small saucepan. Add the same amount of oatmeal mix, stir and cook for about one minute. Remove from heat, cover and let stand for another minute or until thickened.

Makes 16 half-cup servings.

Enjoy
