Introduction
This dish is also called Fassoulieh. It is a popular mediterranean dish I grew up on and still love! You can prepare it with beef chucks or beef marrow bones to add more flavor but I leave it out because it adds more calories and we never even eat it. This dish is also called Fassoulieh. Ingredients
-
5 Garlic cloves
1 Onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 Tbsp Contadina Tomato Paste
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp also salt
1/2 tsp cumin ground or seeds
2 1/2 cups canned great northern beans, drained. Or 1 cup dried great northern beans, soaked over night or for 6-8 hours and drained.
Optional- 1 lb flanken or beef chuck in 2 inch cubes, 3 beef marrow bones. (I don't use it so it is not included in my nutrition facts).
Directions
1- In a medium saucepan, saute the garlic and onion in oil over medium heat for 4-6 minutes. If you are using the meat, add it to the saucepan and brown for about 2 minutes.
**if you are not using meat, skip to step 3 but remember to add 2 quarts of water.
2- add 2 quarts water to saucepan. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered for 1 hour (until meat is tender).. Skim off any foam that rises to the top.
3- Add the beans, tomato paste, cinnamon, cumin, salt, and white pepper. Raise the heat to medium-high and bring to boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 2 hours. Cook longer if you want a thicker consistency.
You can also finish this dish in a preheated 350 degree oven for the final 30 minutes.
Enjoy!!!
