Introduction

Ingredients

    1/2 cup warm water
    1/2 cup warm skim milk
    1 1/2 tablespoon butter
    1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
    1 1/2 cups bread flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 3/4 tsp. yeast
    2 tablespoons sugar
    cornmeal (about 2 Tablespoons)

Directions

Add ingredients according to manufacture's instructions. Set at dough or manual setting. Turn dough out on cornmeal, roll 1/2" thick. Cut 16 circles. Let rise 30 minutes. Preheat electric skillet or flat grill (as in picture) at 250. Brown muffins 15 - 20 minutes on each side until cooked through. (Some skillets may get hotter than other. The one pictured only took about 8 minutes on each side.)

    Does this recipe need a bread machine? What do you mean by "according to package directions"? - 1/28/10

    It is for the bread machine's directions. Without a bread machine: Warm milk with butter until melted. In a separate bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let bubble for 5 min. Meanwhile, mix flours & salt in another bowl. Mix milk & water, stir flour in & knead 5 - 10 min. Let rise until double

    These have none of the nooks and crannies that normal muffins have. They were tasty but tasted more like dinner rolls than english muffins. - 2/8/10
