Introduction

A family favourite given to me by my sister. Easy to prepare, can be slow cooked instead of baked too! A family favourite given to me by my sister. Easy to prepare, can be slow cooked instead of baked too!

Ingredients

    4 pork loin chops
    800 grams potatoes (sliced)
    1 large onion (or equivalent), peeled & sliced
    2 medium apples, peeled & sliced
    125 ml (1/2 cup) saurkraut
    80 ml (1/4 cup) water

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Brown pork chops in a little oil (or cooking spray). Place chops in glass rectangular oven proof dish. Over the chops, layer: saurkraut, onions, apples, potatoes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add water (being careful not to rinse the spices off the casserole). Cover in foil. Bake for 1 hour or longer (depending on thickness of pork chops.

    I didn't have applesauce so I sliced a large apple instead and someone had drunk my apple juice so I substituted cranberry juice and found that it still tasted great! - 10/6/10

    By spices, I mean the salt & pepper. But I have sometimes added sage, thyme and rosemary to change it up.
