Introduction

Yes, I've added hamburger to a classic Indian dish, but it tastes amazing, freezes great, lasts all week and you get hamburger fried in butter for less than 250 calories a serving. Ingredients

1 13.5oz/375g bag of red lentils
    8c/1500ml water
    2 tsp ground turmeric
    2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
    2oz/50g unsalted butter
    2 medium onions, chopped
    4 garlic cloves, chopped
    12oz/315g hamburger
dried red chilies, green chilies or Tabasco sauce (to taste)

Directions

Wash the lentils and then combine them with water, turmeric, cumin and salt in a large pot and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Then cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Melt the butter in a skillet or wok and saute the onions, garlic and chilies until softened.
Add the hamburger to the onion mixture, breaking it up with the spatula. Cook stirring frequently until the hamburger is cooked through and the onions and well-browned and crispy (about 10-15 minutes)
When the lentils and the hamburger/onion mix are both done, combine them (draining the fat off the hamburger mix first, if desired).
