Home made baked maccaroni and cheese a yummy way to eat this comfort food without all the extra calories. You can add more milk and cheese as desired to make it saucier or cheesier and more mustard if you like a sharper flavor. Goes well with green beans on the side. Ingredients
Butter, unsalted, 1 tbsp
Milk, 1%, 1/3 cup
Mozzarella Cheese, part skim milk, 4 oz (about 3/4 cup shredded)
Cheddar Cheese, 1/2 cup shredded
Colman's Mustard powder, 1/2 tsp
Pepper, black, 1 dash
Flour, white, 1 tbsp
Bread crumbs, dry, grated, plain, 1/4 cup
Barilla Shell Pasta, 3/4 of a box (10 oz dry)
Hormel Bacon bits, 1 tbsp
Directions
Cook pasta until al dente in 4 to 6 quarts rapidly boiling water, drain set aside.
In sauce pan melt butter, when butter is melted add flour and take of heat while combining. Slowly incorporate milk to butter and flour roux using a whisk if avaiable to keep sauce from clumping. When all the milk has been added begin to stir in cheeses and mustard powder.
place pasta in a baking dish and pour cheese sauce over pasta, mix together. combine baking bits with bread crumbs and sprinkle over top of baking dish. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
