Introduction
This is an old recipe from my mom. I always loved it at her house, and finally made it after 40 years of thinking about doing it. She always served it with homemade soups. Ingredients
-
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1/2 C. warm water
1 C. cottage cheese (I used 1&)
2 T. sugar
1 T. dried minced onion
2 t. dill seed (I used 1 t. seed and 1 t. dill weed)
1 T. butter
1 t. salt
1/4 t. baking soda
1 egg
2 1/2 C. flour (I think wheat flour could be used for all or some of this.)
additional butter and course salt
Tips
Best served warm, with butter, (not included in calorie count.)
Directions
Dissolve yeast in water. In small saucepan, heat cheese to lukewarm. In large mixing bowl, combine yeast, cheese, sugar, onion, dill, butter salt, baking soda and egg. Mix thoroughly. Add flour; beat well. Cover, let rise until doubled in size, about an hour. Stir dough down; place in a greased 1 1/2 qt. baking dish (mine is a round Pyrex.) Cover and let rise again until doubled, about 40 min. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven 40 min. Remove from dish. Brush top with butter, sprinkle with course salt.
