Introduction

Mostly authentic Southern biscuits. Mostly authentic Southern biscuits.
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

1 2/3 cup Self Rising Flour
    1/3 Shortening
    3/4 cup whole milk
    1 tsp Salt
    1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
    Butter flavored cooking spray

Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. On a cookie sheet, spray butter flavored cooking spray. In a measuring cup, combine milk and vinegar and set aside. In a bowl, blend together flour, salt, and shortening by rubbing the shortening into the flour and salt with your fingers. When the shortening is mostly incorporated, with some pea sized lumps remaining, pour in the milk mixture and gently combine until the dough just comes together. Form into 8 round biscuits (about 1/3 inch thick and 2 inches across), handling as little as possible. Use flour on your hands or on biscuits if they are sticky. Place the biscuits on the cookie sheet, nestled together as much as possible. Spray the top of the biscuits with the butter flavored cooking spray, and make a small dent in the top of each one with your knuckle. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until biscuits are golden on top.
