Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    1 1/2 cups buckwheat groats (kasha)
    1 med oion chopped
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    2 cups low sodium chicken broth
    1/4 cup slivered almonds
    1 can garbanzo beans - rinsed and drained
    2 tablespoons lemon juice
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon cardamon
    1/2 teaspoon allspice
    1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    1/3 cup raisins

    sour cream (optional)

Directions

Saute onion and garlic in olive oil until soft in a heavy deep skillet..

Add all remaining ingredients except the sour cream.

Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook until liquid is absorbed. You may need to add additional liquid if the buckwheat is still too hard.

Top with sour cream if desired.
