Introduction

I got creative with my rice today. It turned out good.
I had to build the recipe to log the calories.

The flavor of India- Garam Masala, an aromatic Indian spice blend.
I purchased mine at Uwajimaya in Seattle.

Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    1 cup brown basmati rice- dry
    3 cups water
    1 medium onion
    1 TBLS butter
    1 cup sweet potato- cubed
    2 cup peas- frozen
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp garam masala

Directions

Caramelize onion in butter, add rice, stir about a minute, add sweet potato and peas. Stir a few more minutes. Then pour into pan of salted boiling water, add garam masala. Stir, bring back to a boil, turn heat down to low, cover and cook for about 50 minutes.
Makes six one cup servings.

    I made this recipe because I was literally trying to use up everything I had on hand...and this did the trick. The only thing I didn't have was garam masala and I found a recipe to mix that up on my own. Not sure my garam masala did the recipe justice or not - but it was good. - 6/26/11
