Ingredients

    Crumbs:
    1 cup flour
    2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
    1 tbsp. margarine

    Liquid:
    1 cup molasses
    1 egg
    2/3 cup boiling water
    1 tsp. baking soda, mixed into 1 tbsp boiling water

Directions

Mix flour, brown sugar, and margarine by hand to form crumbs. Set aside 1/2 cup for top of pie,

Beat egg and mix with molasses. Add 2/3 cup hot water and stir. Add baking soda to the 1 tbsp hot water and add to mixture. Pour the crumbs (except for the 1/2 cup held out) into the liquid and mix well. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Slowly spread the 1/2 cup crumbs on top. Crimp foil around edges of crust to prevent over-browning. Bake for 10 minutes at 425, then for 25 minutes at 375 (removing foil for last 10 minutes).
