This is a healthier version of the ice cream I had to make in my high school chemistry class. But we had used rock salt only to freeze the ice cream. Also we added hearshy's chocolate syrup for those who wanted chocolate ice cream.
Made mine with one cup of almond milk, splenda, almond extract, and instant coffee powder. 40 calories for a whole cup of "ice cream" = heaven!!!! :) I've also (when i think ahead) frozen ice cubes of the milk mixture and then blended them...it gives the same affect
wow...at first i thought that the bag would rip...but this turned out very good...my brother and father thought that i couldnt do it...well they thought wrong!!!!!!...i addeded bananas and honey...very DELICIOUS!!!
I loved it! I made it with almond milk which has the same amount of calories per 1/2 cup.
I must be doing something wrong. I have shaken for 7 minutes and the pint sized bag was pierced from one of the ice cubes and it leaked into the gallon bag so now I have watered down and salted, flavored milk. What did I do wrong?
I was AMAZED at how well this work! I used lemon extract instead and splenda instead of sugar. It turned out like a sorbet for me which is greast as I prefer sorbets. It did taste salty though in some bits but that must gave been me somewhere transferring it into the bowl.
Just made this! We were a bit low on ice, but I managed to get the mixture to freeze. It was actually pretty good. A bit salty, though--which I found odd because the salt was OUTSIDE the mixture bag. But still, I'd use this recipe again!
OMG! This really works well. Who would have thought that you can make ice cream in 4 minutes with two plastic bags, ice and salt and All the Wonderful Arm Exercise! WooHoo!
Update! I made this with 1% milk and Splenda - it was almost better than the real Ice Cream that has all those extras?!!!
Very good! Quite a workout with all the shaking, too! Next time I'll rinse the bag off a little better though--a bit salty!
I made this two times. Fun to make. Almost did not believe it could work so fast. Hard in 3 minutes. My only question is why the ice cream was too salty in spots, even though no salt in the recipe. I can only think it absorbed the salt through the plastic bag? Can anyone help me with this?
This is awesome! I just made it with me 5 year old daughter and her friend. We all loved it. It tasted just like the high fat version we used to make in the ice cream maker when I was little. I will definitely be making this often!
I just made this recipe... I tried it with coconut extract, and coconut flakes...oh, and brown sugar. It's awesome, it has really good flavor... and what I loved the most, I already had all of the ingredients!
Mmmm! This just brought back memories of camp in 5th grade! I made this using only reduced fat chocolate milk and it tasted just like a fudge sickle (I wouldn't call it ice cream, though) - no need to add the sugar or vanilla as the favor is all there. Great idea, thanks for the reminder!
Tastes great, low calorie and super easy to make. My husband and I both loved it and plan to try with banana next time.
thanks so much. i made with splenda and enjoyed.
be very careful to wash salt off small bag and hands.
This is great!! I'm on South Beach, and I used Splenda instead of sugar. I will definitely do this one again!
Really good, substituted splenda for sugar and did 1/8 vanilla and 1/8 rum extract. Soo good!
If you are craving ice cream but don't want to spend a lot of money and waste a lot of calories, this is wonderful.
