Nutrition & Calorie Comments

I made this for dinner last night and everybody liked it.I cooked my own black beans and used low sodium chicken broth.
This is a good basic recipe. i cut out the water and replaced it with beef broth and added cubed ham. Changed the flavor and the calorie piece a bit.
I made this but made it the way I always do by sauteing the onion, bell pepper, garlic in olive oil then add canned black beans, salt and pepper to taste. If you just want more beans then soup, skim some of the juice off. My family loves it over yellow rice with cuban bread.
i made this today--double recipe-- in the crock pot, as suggested, and it was superb!! i needed to add quite a bit of salt (since I didn't use chicken or vegetable broth but water). so glad i have a big pot for us to eat on all week!
