Ingredients

    1 large head of red cabbage
    4 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1/4 c. water
    1/4 c. red wine vinegar
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon pepper
    3 apples - Tart ones work well

Tips

This is good if made ahead and reheated.


Directions

Shred the cabbage. Melt the butter in a laarge pot and add shredded cabgage and sugar. Stir and cook for a few minutes. Add water, vinegar, salt and pepper. Cover and cook slowly for 1 1/2 hours.

Core and chop the apples. Add them to the cabbage. Cover and cook for another 1/2 hour. Add more sugar or salt if needed.

Serving Size: Makes 8-10 one-cup servings
