Introduction

I know, biscuits aren't all that healthy, but these are better than most. Some whole grain, and no baking powder with its aluminum. I know, biscuits aren't all that healthy, but these are better than most. Some whole grain, and no baking powder with its aluminum.

Ingredients

2 cups white flour, preferrably unbleached
1 cup minus 2 TBS whole wheat flour
    2 TBS wheat germ
    1 tsp salt
    1 1/2 tsp baking soda
    1 TBS sugar
1 stick (1/2 cup) margerine - reduced fat actually works here
    1 cup lowffat buttermilk

Directions

Preheat oven to 450*. Combine all ingredients except buttermilk, mix until crumbly. Pastry blender works great. Add buttermilk and make dough. If dough is too dry and crumbly, add more buttermilk, 1 tsp at a time. If too sticky, add a little more flour. Be careful not to overmix - biscuits will get tough. Dough can be rolled and cut with biscuit cutter or drinking glass. (2 1/2" diameter is great) Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 15 min. Makes 16 biscuits.
