Introduction

This is a tasty version low in fat with good for you ingredients. Great on a cold day! I got the idea for this recipe on a recipe site but added a few ingredients such as whole grain rice to make it healthier. I have always loved red beans and rice. I got the idea for this recipe on a recipe site but added a few ingredients such as whole grain rice to make it healthier. I have always loved red beans and rice.

Ingredients

    1 Tblsp Olive Oil
    1 1/2 cans tomato sauce
    4 1/2 cups water, divided
    1/2 tsp dried oregano
    1/2 tsp dried basil
    1 pinch dried thyme
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 tablespoon Chili Powder
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1/2 tsp cumin
    2 Cups Whole Grain Rice (I use Uncle Ben's in the microwavable bag for convenience)
    2 tblsp Brown Sugar or substitute

Directions

1.In a large saucepan combine olive oil, kidney beans, tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, oregano, basil,thyme, salt, pepper, Chili Powder, Garlic Powder, Cumin, Thyme, and Brown Sugar. Simmer on low heat.
2. Stir in 1 microwavable package of Uncle Bens Whole Grain Ready Rice
