Introduction

This is the stuffing that my family has been serving for years at thanksgiving. The morning always started with the kids toasting and cubing bread! The are certainly ways to lighten this up, with light butter and reduced calories bread. The recipe will stuff an 8-10 lb. turkey. Ingredients

    -1 cup of butter
    -3/4 cup of diced onion
    -1/2 cup of diced celery
    -1/2 cup of chopped parsley
-1/4 cup of diced green peppers
-1 small can of chopped mushrooms
    -2 teaspoons of salt
    -1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
    -1 & 1/2 teaspoons of poultry seasoning
-10 cups of toasted bread cubes (a 1 lb loaf is about right)
    -1 beaten egg

Directions

In a large pot, melt the butter and gently sauté the onion (until soft), celery, green peppers, parsley and mushrooms.

Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl and add them to the butter mixture.

Blend in the beaten egg and a little hot water (or chicken stock) and stir well to make sure all the veggies and spices are distributed.

You can bake it in a covered, oven proof dish for an hour or so at 350 or stuff it in a turkey if you wish.

**If you cut the recipe in half, it will be enough to stuff a couple of chickens.
