Ingredients

Whisk together thoroughly in a large bowl:
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
Whisk together, then add all at once:
1 large egg
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
3 1/2 tbsp warm melted unsalted butter
1/2 cup cranberries (or other dried fruit such as raisins, currants, blueberries, cherries, apricots, pears)
Mix until dry ingredients are moistened. Batter will be sticky. Use soupspoon to drop batter in mounds 2 1/2 inches in diameter at least 1 inch apart on baking sheet. Sprinkle top w/ sugar. Bake until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes.
