Introduction
Great sidedish for summer parties Great sidedish for summer partiesNumber of Servings: 30
Ingredients
-
1 lb bacon
1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
1 large sweet onion
3-4 cloves of garlic
red pepper flakes if desired
1 can baked beans
1 can navy beans
1 can red beans
1 can butter beans
1 can pinto beans
molasses to taste
Directions
This is a great cookout side dish and taste even better when cooked in a big kettle over an open fire!!
Dice onion, split
Dice garlic, split
Cut raw bacon into bite-sized pieces
Open all cans of beans and drain them except for the baked beans. Pour into kettle/crock pot.
Spray frying pan with Pam and brown 1/2 of the onion and 1/2 of the garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired. Once it is brown, add the sliced bacon and cook until crisp. When cooked, add to beans. Repeat this same process for the ground meat , add to beans.
Stir together and add mild molasses, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook until heated through.
The calories are calculated on one cup of molasses but you may use more or less depending on how sweet you want it.
The beans listed are only a suggestion - use what you like! This will make a LARGE crockpot full so either have a bunch of people to feed or be prepared to freeze some!
