Ingredients

    1 medium (150g) brown onion, chopped coarsely
    2 garlic cloves,
    4 celery stalks, chopped coarsely
    half a head of broccoli
    2 bay leaves
    2 ham hocks
    2.5 liters (10 cups) chicken stock
    1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
    2 cups (375g) split green peas

Directions

Method
Cook onion, garlic, brccoli, celery until softened. Add enough stock to cover and simmer until veges are cooked then puree until smooth. Add bay leaves, split peas, ham hocks, and remaining stock; bring to the boil. Reduce the heat; simmer, covered, for about 2 hours. Remove ham hock and bay leaves.
When ham hocks are cool enough to handle, remove meat from hocks. Shred meat finely and add back to the soup. Rest soup for 15 minutes before serving.
