Ingredients

    1 Cup Rolled oats
    1 1/2 Cups All-Purpose flour
    1/2 cup shortening, butter or margarine -- chilled & diced
    1 Cup brown sugar, packed
    1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
    1/2 cup buttermilk -- or milk with 1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1/2 cup raisins -- golden

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well with your fingers until well combined. (Or mix with stand mixer.)
Next press (do not roll) with the hands on a floured board into long strips about 2" wide and 1/2" thick. Score the crosswise strips with the back of a knife with deep ridges.
Cut into 3" lengths and bake on an ungreased baking sheet in 325-degree oven for approximately 25 minutes. (Depends on how dark you want them.)
