Introduction

Adding textured vegetable protein to a low fat ground turkey chili increases the nutrition values and doesn't seem to affect the flavor. It also lowers the cost of making a big pot of chili. Ingredients

    1 large Onion, chopped
16 oz Lean Ground Turkey Breast
2 cloves garlic or to taste
8 cup or 2 ea 28 oz cans Canned Tomatoes,
1 jalapeno pepper, chopped, or to taste
.5 cup tvp - textured vegetable protein dry
    2 cups canned Pinto Beans
    4 cups Water
    1 Tablespoon ground cumin
    1/2 teaspoon Italian spices
1/2 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
    salt to taste

Directions

In a big pot, cook the onions in the olive oil until they look translucent (you can cut the fat by using broth instead of the oil). Add the ground turkey and break up and cook it until white. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a slow simmer. Cook until the tvp is soft - about 20 to 30 minutes more.
