Ingredients

    1/8 lb turnips (2 med sized), quartered
    1/4 c onion
    1 tbsp butter
    3 whole cloves
    bay leaf
    1/4 tsp thyme
    1/2 tbsp flour
    1/4 c half and half
    1/2 c milk
    salt
    pepper
    nutmeg

Directions

Boil turnips in water until tender. Meanwhile, bring milk and half and half to a simmer. In saute pan, cook onions with butter until tender. Add thyme, cloves and bay leaf and cook for 1 minute. Add flour and stir, cook. Add to milk/half and half mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for five minutes, stirring occasionally. Put mixture through strainer and discard solids. Add turnips to liquid and mash with potato masher before blending in food processor. Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste. Serve warm.

    So good! Easy to make, though having 3 pans going on the cook top at once is kinda tricky for me, and so tasty! I just ended up letting people add salt and pepper to their taste, rather than adding it in. Great recipe! - 1/5/11

    I had never had turnips before, but this recipe was delicious.It's been a long time since I had any creamy vegetable, so this was a treat. I didn't have half & half, so I used 2% milk and threw in a Tbl of FF cream cheese. - 3/6/11
