Very good as is but to "sauce" it up a bit because it was pretty chunky, I added 1 can of tomato sauce and I also used a little extra garlic, and added some Italian season as well as some garlic salt just to give it a bit more of a garlic flavor. I LOVE garlic~
I'm going to make this to go over the stuffed shells (made with tofu) thanks for sharing! and I'm loving the sodium content! woohoo
The taste is not the issue with this recipe. To make this truly a heart healthy dish you need to use turkey breast. It has virtuely no fat and has less cholesterol than ground turkey.
I make something similar with a store-bought sauce. There are so many varieties out there, and fairly easy to choose one that's low cal, lowfat, low carb, and high flavor.
I use no salt added canned tomatoes. I make this recipe often.
Sodium looks too low for canned tomatoes. I would normally substitute fresh, but used canned this time due to the current salmonella scare. That brought the sodium to 476mg. It was good, though.
Question to CUDDLESUK This is very low sodium at 63.9. What made you think it was high? I do think you should use low sodium canned tomatoes, etc. I will make this, partly because it is low sodium.
Such an easy substitution and less fat, too!
what a great idea instead of using red meat which is higher in fat content. My only query is why such a high sodium content? i am sure the nutritional info is wrong!
