Very good recipe! I cut back on the water and brown sugar! Turn out great!
I skipped the brown sugar and salt. We don't use salt here. I added mushrooms, garlic and thyme.
No way I'd make something with this much sodium!
Brown the bacon pieces first, that's all the fat you need.
oh my sounds good but the sodium would put me in the ER
Good recipe. Cut out some of the brown sugar
whats the quarter of a cup of sugar for? that really seems an odd addition to a beef stew
I added beef broth. Had to thicken up the stew. Would have added a turnip, celery and a few more spices. Cut out the brown sugar.
Decent. Will cut back on the amt of beer n Brown sugar nxt time. Easy!
Is the sodium on this correct? Why is there a recipe on Sparkpeople that has more than the daily allowance for sodium? Almost 3000 mg in one dish? May as well eat a fast food meal.
Nice picture! Just don't eat the bread bowl and butter and omit the wine and you might be able to stay within a respectable calorie range for this meal.
This recipe sounds amazing and I can't wait to try it. I have some concerns about the nutrition information provided, however. I am looking at the label on a Guinness can, and it appears it was entered wrong, actually getting 19 cal less per serving than listed, sodium amount seems wrong as well.
Nice and hearty. Made a double batch, added only 2 cans of Guinness. Left out parsnips. Didn't list how much water- added 900ml carton of beef broth, but it does need another 45 mins simmering. Brown sugar was too sweet- only needs 1/2 the amount. Bays leaves & thyme were good additions
