Great bread alternative. Good for sandwiches, with soup or just alone hot with butter. I've subbed the almond flour with Carbquik and omitted the salt and baking powder. If you use Carbalose, still include the leavening agents.) You could also try soy flour, but do so at your own taste risk. Of course nutritional values change when using alternative ingredients.
A low carb option using Shiritaki yam noodles. My friend came up with this when were trying a low carb high protein diet. You can find these in some supermarkets and health food stores in Canada. Also Sambal Oelek is found in the asian section with Sirachi sauces.
This is a very basic "intro" level curry; it's very mild (enough so that even little kids will likely eat it).
Adapted from "The Korean Table". Good on its own, as a starter or with a side of kimchi and 1/2 cup rice. :)
The canned enoki mushrooms used in this recipe looks like noodles, so it feels like you're eating a noodle dish, but with MUCH fewer calories though still a very savory dish. And the cooked cilantro makes this dish smell great too! Canned enoki mushrooms are found in most Asian grocery stores, along with the canned water chestnuts and baby corn.
A yummy dessert that can be enjoyed even on phase 1 of South Beach. It does have quite a bit of fat, but that is from the Peanut Butter, and is "good fat".
The perfect side dish to any spicy Southwestern Meal, and Perfect for South Beach diet Phase 1.
PREP: 15 minutes MARINATE: 1 to 4 hours GRILL: 10 minutes
1. Place each chicken breast between 2 pieces of plastic wrap. Using the flat side of a meat mallet, pound lightly to 1/2-inch thickness. Remove plastic wrap.
2. Place chicken in a self-sealing plastic bag. In a small bowl combine vinegar, oil, garlic, kosher salt, and crushed red pepper. Pour over chicken. Seal bag; turn to coat chicken. Marinate in the refrigerator for 1 to 4 hours, turning bag occasionally.
3.Drain, discarding marinade. For a charcoal grill, place chicken on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 10 to 12 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink (170°F), turning once halfway through grilling. (For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place chicken on grill rack over heat. Cover and grill as above.)
Oven method: Place chicken on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Roast chicken in a 400°F oven for about 15 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink (170°F).
