This is easy low-fat spaghetti meat sauce. Simple is best. You can modify this to fit your taste. Add some Italian sausage for added kick. Add mushrooms or sun dried tomatoes. Substitute sliced sausage links for the meat or leave the meat out. Makes a good marinara. Use in lasagna, layer between noodles with mozzarella cheese and sauce. Salude!
We love Swedish meatballs. Trying to make a lower fat variety that my boy would eat became a challenge, until I tried a 50/50 mix of 93% FF beef and ground pork loin. He loved it. Also, I don't flour and pan fry the meatballs. I dunk them in boiling broth for 1-2 minutes, then finish them in the sauce.
Using some leftover chicken, using what I have in the house and garden AND trying to keep it low cal/fat after over doing it at a picnic, I threw together this quick concoction. Makes enough just for one, is quick and easy so I can make it fresh daily. Add whatever herbs you like - the fat free tartar sauce is becoming a staple - comes in a small jar, I was throwing away jars of mayo / miracle whip cause by myself I didn't use enough and it would go bad. It has tang like Miracle whip.
I wrapped it in some homegrown lettuce/romaine to really limit my calories.
I found this as part of another recipe in Taste of Home Healthy Cooking and made my own modifications which reduced the calories, fat and sodium. Originally it was Fettuccine slaw - but combining fettuccine and cabbage - cold didn't come out as well as I hoped, BUT this slaw dressing was tasty - you will want to add salt to taste.
On a cold winter's night, this is a hearty, satisfying meal when paired with fresh made cornbread muffins (a sparkpeople recipe)
This hearty soup is great for cold days. Many healthy ingredients, and it goes together quickly if you use canned ingredients.
I love instant oatmeal, but most of the commercial stuff is too expensive and has too much junk in it. I found a recipe for a home made mix and this is my favorite blend.
I hate the price of all the "nutritional" bars on the market. I decided to mix up a batch of my own and based it on the traditional rice cereal treat. By replacing 2-3 cups cereal with trail mix, chopped nuts, dried fruit, or granola, I've come up with some tasty treats. This blend is with a "bulk" blueberry granola & dry roasted almonds.
There are no additional oils or butters used in this recipe. I use parchement paper to press the mixture in parchment lined pan to form the bars.
A very fragrant and flavorful hearty soup, easy to put together and delicious for a cool evening!
This is a tasty low-fat, low-carb chili recipe, that can be made with or without tomatoes.
Olive gardens pasta fagoli. using Italian sausage. no pasta is added to the caloric breakdown. (trying to low carb it a smidge)
I use almost all no salt added items. no salt canned items were not available in database, so sodium is a lot lower in my pot.
This is adapted from my clean eating magazine. I make a batch up and I have 4 lunches for the week and it is filling and yum-o!
