My grandmother made this every year for the holidays - hope I remembered it right!
Craving chips and dip? Try these instead! You can also add any spices you want - onion powder or garlic powder both work great. I imagine oregano might as well, or if you're in the mood for sweet instead of salty, maybe a little finely ground cinnamon sugar would be just the ticket! I brought two batches of these to Easter dinner last spring, with a bowl of homemade hummus to dip them in. There were none to bring back home!
Substitute other purees for the applesauce: crushed pineapple, pumpkin, carrot, prunes, cranberries, banana etc..
This stuff is SO good...eat it on a bed of shredded lettuce instead of a dip or serve with whole grain tortilla chips! High in protein.
