This is an adaptable recipe for granola bars - Go ahead, experiment with it. The molasses gives them a nice rich flavour. They are quite filling, and as a midmorning snack they provide a good energy boost.
My inspiration to make this was the day I made my family heirloom recipe for a traditional Bavarian plum tart, served over a delicious shortbread crust. I didn't want to surrender to that, so I gently simmered my own serving of plums. The plums made such a delicious syrup that I decided to serve it over yogurt. I loved it!
Forget fruit yogurts with high fructose corn syrup. You can do this to any kind of stone fruit so that you can eat fruit in a delicious way.
My favorite plum to use are Italian Prunes. They're a little tricky to find, but they come into season around September.

When I was eight years old, my parents got American Girl dolls for me. Along with the doll, I also got the Felicity cookbook and this recipe soon became one of my favorites. For those of you with a gluten allergy, you can substitute the regular flour with rice flour.
The original recipe says that this makes 12 servings but just a handful (about half of a serving) makes a great snack at just over 150 calories. Careful - they're addictive.
These muffins taste deliciously hippy and wholesome. Filled with bran goodness and dried fruit they are a hearty start to the day or a great snack for any time.
I know it sounds simple, but it never occured to me until I saw it on another site. a great way to dress up an old favorite.
