I was inspired to make these after one of the practicioners in my holistic nutrition college brought in coconut and flaxseed balls made with maple syrup. Well, I know that dates are a fantastic base for anything rich and sweet anyway, and who DOESN'T like chocolate truffles? The sesame oil and seed coating add a little bit of interest and "lighten up" the rich flavour of the dates and cocoa.
This receipe has been passed down for generations. It was originally call a Fat Pork Cake. Smart balance subs for the ground fat pork, no calorie sweetner subs for sugar, egg substitute replaced the whole eggs, skim milk subs for whole milk and walnuts replaces the pecans.
"Insanely easy, but oh so rich! Recipe makes a large amount but you can vary flavorings and coatings to make several different varieties." http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Easy-Decadent

Also called Kolache, it's Czech pastry that's been a big hit in our family for years! Yields 30 cookies. Prepare the dough the night before!
Make a batch of this, separate it into individual portions and keep it in the fridge for those mornings when you're short on time! All it takes is a quick zap for a hot breakfast at home or work. Buckwheat is gluten free and a source of all the essential amino acids, great for vegan protein needs!
No shortage of flavour in this noodle! Whole wheat, garlic and any herb you like add a rich and wholesome nuance to your everyday side dish. Try it with a simple olive oil and herb sauce!
Peanuts and popcorn... surprise! Sweet and salty kettle corn is ground down to a coarse meal before being mixed into a slightly rich, honey-sweetened whole wheat dough. A handful of chopped peanuts adds the classic nutty element... it's a sandwich loaf that's anything but!

With bright red cranberries, green peppers, and a sweet & spicy kick, this makes a great alternative to heavy winter appetizers. Serve with tortilla or pita chips, top grilled chicken, add to a salad, or toss into quesadillas.
My husband's grandmother's cinnamon roll recipe, only healthier. Great for those special occasions like Christmas morning.
Something my mom used to whip up for dinner during the week, these are fancy and delicious enough for company too! Use the most slender carrots you can find, as they're the sweetest.
Recipe out of Liddabit Sweets. This is fairly simple to make but gets over EVERYTHING. It is hard to work in all the nuts, and cut it when it's cooled (it is hard candy!) but it's worth it for a special Christmas gift - it keeps almost indefinitely too!
A touch of powdered sugar mixed into these whipped egg whites makes for a lovely marshmallowy interior while keeping a crisp shell.
Rich coconut milk laces a (more or less) traditional rice pudding that is scented with cardamom, cinnamon and saffron. Dates and raisins add sweet bursts that melt in your mouth.
This recipe is SO quick and simple that you'll be making it all the time - light and bubbly honeycomb-esque toffee enrobing salty chickpeas makes a great snack anytime, and it's 100% school safe too!
Almonds, dark chocolate chips, cranberries and caramel bits meld together with spelt flour, kinako and aquafaba for an eggless, crunchy dunker!
A hearty, nut-filled trail mix and a good glug of half-and-half cream definitely earn this low-sugar quickbread "dessert" status. Served with a strong cup of tea, you don't need frosting to indulge!
A soft and tender cake filled with exotic spice and partially bound with aquafaba in place of eggs. Delicious with a cup of tea!
Aquafaba (liquid that comes with canned chickpeas and other beans) whips up perfectly into light and fluffy meringue - perfect for light-as air, fat free cookies. It is even easier than using egg whites, and no allergy issues to contend with either!
Tender oat flour cookie dough made with ricotta cheese (and no egg!) makes a delicious wrapper for a pinwheel of Nutella, crunchy peanut butter and chopped peanuts. How can you go wrong?
Inspired by my Dutch Oven Sunchoke Sourdough from years ago, I added even more "sunflower" elements (Jerusalem artichokes / sunchokes are a relative of the sunflower!) with ground and whole seeds, sunflower oil and sunflower milk. A sunny pop of colour came through with diced dried apricots and the crusty bread was baked in the Dutch oven for an artisan feel!
