Apparently a British classic, which tastes like honey. Just tried it myself for the very first time today. UKTV food. Makes 4 cups for 64 1-tbsp servings.

Soooo tasty! The somewhat unusual combination of split peas and brown rice (in lieu of the more traditional lentils and rice) in a hearty, main meal dish soup, lightly spiced with garlic and curry, should appeal to both vegetarians AND omnivores! If the curry is too strong feel free to omit; or, if you love the Indian flair it adds, use up to three teaspoons!

My mother got us a KitchenAid Stand Mixer for Christmas, and this recipe came with it.
I made mine vegan as my son cannot have dairy. I used cashew milk in place of cow's milk. Almond or coconut milk would be great too. I also added additional spices including nutmeg and ginger. I used less salt than it called for and used Himalayan Pink Sea Salt.
This originally made 6 servings with less veggies. I added even more veggies and this is equal to or greater than at least 12 servings. It made so much!!
