Irish style (steel cut) oats are a great food, but take a long time to cook, so they're difficult for a weekday breakfast. Using the slow cooker overnight solves that problem. Chinese 5-spice powder (a mixture of cinnamon, ginger, two types of anise and cloves) gives it a wonderfully exotic flavor. We make a large batch and freeze it in cellophane wrap lined muffin pans, then bag the individual pucks. Depending on the size of your muffin pans, one or two oatmeal pucks in the microwave for a few minutes makes a quick and tasty breakfast.
No idea if these are good, but I've heard wonderful things - my friend is making them tomorrow and I wanted to see how many calories before I ate one!
These Belgian style waffles are the tastiest! The recipe calls for Carbon's Golden Malted Waffle & Pancake Flour, Carbon's can be found at Williams-Sonoma stores.
All fruit amounts are flexible, maple syrup can be replaced with any other sweetener, and silk can be replaced with milk.
These are great tasting muffins; they taste almost like cookies; they are not low calorie-just look at the oil. Great recipe if you can afford the calories and want a different type of muffing (based off of Muffin Madness which I think is from Mollie Katzen's cookbook)
This a really good basic recipe adapted from one in usaweekend several years ago - I actually used low fat half and half, but couldn't find its calculations on here and threw out the container so the recipe I made had maybe 10 more calories per serving. Big servings which makes the calories not quite so bad.
This is a dilicious smoothie that I made up one morning. Finally made a smothie that wasn't all watery or slushy.
This recipe yields 18 muffins that freeze well and make for a nutrutious breakfast or snack. High in protein and fiber, low in fat.
Try adding chopped tomatoes or peppers, or goat cheese in place of feta. If you want to cut more calories or prefer toast on the side, cook the eggs omelet-style, then add the filling and roll it up like a burrito.
This is a delicious breakfast or a snack that should keep you full throughout the morning or afternoon!!
Couldn't find this healthy. old fashioned cereal on your data base so I have added it. This cereal has lots of flax in it which makes it a good source of Omega-6. It also contains a whopping 6 grams of fibre which doesn't hurt first thing in the morning. It takes just a little longer to prepare than oatmeat but gives you lots of nutritional bump to start your day. I'm almost 60, and my mother served me this most of the winter.
These are so yummy! Hard to eat just a few. Serve with syrup, or even better jam!
spray dish, pie filling on bottom, mix everything else together. Put in layer of bread torn to pieces, cover with mixed ingredients, refrigerate overnight. bake 375 45 min
A moist, somewhat chewy, heart-healthy coffee cake. Oh...did I mention it's delicious? It's just sweet enough with a rich, warm flavor. You can use any chopped nut you like...I just prefer the hazelnut flavor with the taste of the pear. Enjoy!
