This cooked with a ham bone. Saute onions and carrots in oil. Add to chicken broth with ham bone. Add split peas. Bring to a boil and then reduce to simmer until smooth. Add butter and season with salt and pepper to taste. Excellent!
Nice on cold evenings or serve cold the next day for an approximate version of vichyssoise
This is a delicious breakfast that definitely tastes like more calories than it is! Lots of lean protien and whole grains make it very filling and help you last til lunch time. It's also a favorite mid-night snack of mine if I missed dinner but don't want to go to sleep totally on empty!
Obviously nutritious and low-calorie, this soup is also surprisingly delicious! My husband reverse-engineered it from memories of a favorite soup his mother made him as a child. We love it, and our little boy has loved it since he was a toddler.
This is a recipe for just the island part. You would eat this with liquidy custard, creme anglaise in French, or pudding made with too much milkl so it didn't set correctly.
