Made these for a first birthday party- for my puppy. I decided to taste one, since there wasn't anything in them that I wouldn't eat otherwise. I was very pleasantly surprised that they tasted very good to me! They're not cloyingly sweet, but neither are they bland. I crunched the numbers, and decided that nutritionally they seemed reasonable in moderation. So, they are puppy and kitty safe as well for treats, b-days, etc.

Vegan and low fat, this chocolate cake won't disappoint. The applesauce omits the oil that would originally be needed to bake a cake. Delish! Adapted from The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Pants.

I love chocolate cake. And when I needed a chocolate fix quick and couldn't find a cake mix, well I found this recipe (at the back of hershey's cocoa) Delicious and moist and chocolatey! The recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar, I used 1 1/4 and thought it was just the right amount of sweetness. Next time I'm subbing applesauce for oil.

I found a recipe for yellow cake from scratch that required real butter, whole milk, real sugar...Whereas when I made it, I did use real sugar, but Splenda(or something splenda like) cuts calories immensely! And Smart balance really does cook like real butter.
