This is a tred and true recipe that my husband LOVES. However the original recipe called fro 1 cup of Crisco oil! I have been messing with this recipe to cut out some of the bad calories. This version was FANTASTIC, even better than the original. I think you could easily add a whole wheat flour, or even a little oatmeal to fatten the nutrition value.
I love the almond butter Perfect Food Bars but the price ($2.85 a bar, $20 on a case of 8 when it's on sale? yikes!) keeps me from enjoying them on a regular basis. I got this idea from looking at the ingredients and thinking, "hey, a lot of this 'whole food powder' is in my Alive! vanilla protein powder." Most of the ingredients are from the bulk section of my local natural food store which saves me even more on the cost of making these knockoffs.

I love smoothies, any time of year... this smoothie takes advantage of the new Dole frozen mixed fruit at my grocer, which I add to whatever fresh fruit I have at home, today, mango and strawberries... Pineapple juices is added for a zing of tropical flavor.. this recipe makes 2 servings, and tastes just as good without the yogurt!
