Why put the cheese on top of the burger when half of it just melts off? Instead, form the burger around the cheese so you can char the meat and safeguard the more delicate flavors. Use any mixture of hard or semihard cheeses--Emmentaler and Gouda or Asiago and Parmigiano-Reggiano also pair well.

You can make this as hot as you like it. The ingredients list I provided will make it "medium-spicy." Leave out the ginger, red pepper flakes, and rooster sauce if you don't want any spice. Enjoy!

The only thing "poor" about this stew is the cut of meat because you make it with inexpensive ground beef. My family loves this stick-to-your-ribs comfort food! I love the fact that it is a one skillet (and a little bowl) meal.
I prefer atlantic haddock. I use frozen product thawed instead of Fresh. Icelandic is our favourite-lots of flavor. We do not use salt.
